My final project in the Design Technologist programme, specializing in Sustainable Fashion Tech.
Research question:
How can Acne Studios, with a focus on longevity and social responsibility, choose sustainable alternatives to virgin leather that meet the requirements of the EU Textile Strategy?
I chose to work with post-consumer leather based on an analysis of the current leather alternatives available on the market. For a deeper insight into the selection process, you can read my thesis under the ‘theses’ section.

Based on the philosophy of Wabi-Sabi, I developed a design proposal for Acne Studios. The aim is to create designs with longevity that respond to the needs of the target group while adding value beyond the choice of materials. My inspiration is partly drawn from Leonard Koren’s book Wabi-Sabi for Artists, Designers, Poets & Philosophers.
Wabi-sabi is a Japanese sensibility rather than a physical object. It emerges when objects and spaces create a sense of connection and spirituality between people and their surroundings.

collection overview
In production, each style is ‘branded’ with a reference to the post-consumer product it originates from – a commentary on the traditional branding of animals. This serves as a humorous yet political statement, encouraging greater responsibility when purchasing leather products.
